Who can participate?

For the purpose of determining your child's "league age" it is simply their age as of 7/31/23. We will have teams for ages 5-13

Cost Information

The registration fee is $350 for the season for ages 5-13 and $250 for ages 3-4.

For those who will be on a travel team there will be an extra $100 charge due at the beginning of August. There is no longer an additional volunteer fee or a fundraising fee, as in years past. We encourage everyone to please help the organization by donating time and/or supporting the league wide fundraisers that we will have throughout the season.

What does my registration fee include?

The fee includes the necessary insurance, fees payable to Town of Munster, facility rental fees to the School Town of Munster, operating fees payable to regional Pop Warner authority, coach certifications/training, and equipment, etc.

When does the cheer season start and how long does it last?

The season starts August 1, 2023 and cheer practice will be held every day from August 1-4 and August 7-10 from 5:00pm to 7:30pm. After the first two weeks, practice will be Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 5:30-7:30pm until Labor Day. After Labor Day: practices will move indoors, and practice days may change to accommodate all teams. As we get closer to competition there may be some Saturday practices, a weekday practice would be canceled, if a Saturday practice is added.

The first football game of the 8 game regular season will be August 27, 2023 and conclude mid October.

The Princess Cheer Gala for Tiny Mites and Mitey Mites is in early October. The Local Cheer Competition is in Mid-October. The Regional Cheer Competition is Early November. The National Cheer Competition is Early December.

Is youth cheer safe?

More so than any other youth sports organization, Munster Pop Warner volunteers are subject to strict requirements. After a thorough background check, volunteers are required to complete hours of cheer training and CPR certification give our volunteers the necessary tools to teach modern, proper, and safe techniques while carefully monitoring player health. Further, we strive to provide the safest available equipment to further provide protection for our young student athletes.

Can my child play other sports while cheering?

The short answer to the question is no. Unlike other sports, failure to regularly attend practice and commit to hurts the team as a whole. If someone is missing from a stunt group that means that the whole stunt group cannot not practice fully. Fall is cheer season and full focus is required.

Where does Munster Pop Warner practice and play games?

Cheer practice will be held atFrank Hammond School Outside. After Labor Day cheer practice moves indoors and we will move to the wrestling room at Wilbur Wright Middle School. Home games will be played at Munster High School. Away games will be played throughout the Northern Indiana region often competing against local communities such as Highland or Griffith but also traveling as far as Chesterton, Valparaiso, or South Bend.

If practice starts August 1st, why does registration close June 1st and what happens in between?

Once registration closes, there is a tremendous amount of work to be done in preparing appropriate team rosters, ensuring the required amount of equipment is available and paperwork filed with the league. The first week in June there will be a parent meeting and uniform sizing. Uniforms need to be ordered by June 10th to ensure we have them for the first football game in August.
